PARENT EDUCATION
PARENT EDUCATION, an integral Red Road Spoke service, operates in conjunction with the Red Road Indigenous West Hub, nestled within Edmonton’s sacred space, THE ORANGE HUB (TOH). This hub of learning and support, located at:
332, 10045-156 Street, Edmonton, AB T5P 2P7,
serves as a beacon of empowerment for Indigenous parents seeking to enrich their parenting journey.
Comprising a comprehensive array of offerings, PARENT EDUCATION Indigenous spoke services are deeply rooted in the principles of EARLY CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT. From the tender moments of Baby Bonding to the nurturing rhythms of Rhyming and the milestone guidance of Ages and Stages, each program component is meticulously designed to foster holistic growth in children.
In addition to these foundational elements, PARENT EDUCATION encompasses a rich tapestry of cultural practices, including Nipissing Assessments, Health For Two, and ceremonial teachings that honor Indigenous traditions. The weaving of Moss Bags, crafting of Baby Blankets and Moccasins, and the artistry of Cradleboards pay homage to ancestral wisdom, nurturing not just physical development but spiritual connection.
Moreover, PARENT EDUCATION extends beyond individual sessions to include Longhouse Family Nights, where families gather to deepen their bonds and partake in shared experiences. Here, the Caregiver Capacity Building domain comes to life, reinforcing parental protective factors within the home while mitigating risk factors through a diverse array of weekly programs.
These programs span the spectrum of EARLY CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT and FAMILY OUTREACH, encompassing activities such as Literacy initiatives, Starblanket Construction workshops, ceremonial practices, Home Visitation, Indigenous Therapeutic Sewing and Crafting, Regalia Making, Drum Making, Nooners, and Sharing Circles. Each session serves as an opportunity for parents to not only enhance their caregiving skills but also to build a supportive community rooted in cultural heritage and mutual empowerment.
Through PARENT EDUCATION, Indigenous parents are equipped with the tools, knowledge, and support necessary to navigate the joys and challenges of parenthood while honoring their cultural identity and heritage. This holistic approach fosters resilience, strengthens familial bonds, and nurtures the growth of both parent and child in harmony with Indigenous teachings and values.
