Importance of Drums
…The Creator was watching the human beings and listening to them saying, “How do I show gratitude for Mother Earth?” So, the Creator started to send the human beings dreams and visions. In these dreams and visions, he showed them how to construct drums. As I was talking about this yesterday, when we are drumming, we stand up. In Denny teachings, that’s what we do. We stand up because we want that spirit from Mother Earth to go directly through our legs to our heart. When we sit down, sometimes that spirit loses momentum and doesn’t reach our heart properly, and signals get mixed up….
Chief Clifford Cardinal
Chief Clifford Cardinal talks about how we need peace, we need love, we need to be back to where we were before we were disrupted. The Constitution based on oral tradition and a lot of stories are taken now seriously now that our young people are understanding what is oral tradition it used to be there used to be a time when our young people didn’t want to listen because our older people talked in Cree and our young people who are losing their language again it was not our fault we were not allowed to speak our mother language and I’ve been lucky that I retained my language I didn’t go to school until I was 10.
